HBE Summer Events

July was a busy month at HBE – two events in the Boston area, and in DC with LouAnn Lofton and Tom Gardner of the Motley Fool (“Warren Buffet Invests Like A Girl”), Josh Foer (“Moonwalking With Einstein”) and Joe Palca (“Annoying”). August was much quieter – family vacation time at the beach, and planning for our event on September 12 with Dr. Paul Farmer. Hooks Book Events Presents Dr. Paul Farmer with “Haiti After the Earthquake”

Vernice “FlyGirl” Armour

Two years ago, we met Vernice “FlyGirl” Armour when she was a keynote speaker at the 2009 Executive Women in Goverment Summit and she wowed the audience with her energy, enthusiasm and  accomplishments.  Vernice has since become a good friend and supporter of HBE, helping us find a corporate sponsor for our first “Author Meet & Greet” at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Stand Up For Heroes Event

Last night Perry and Lorretta went to the Reagan Building for the Bob Woodruff Foundation’s Stand Up for Heroes to benefit injured service members, veterans, and their families. Long-time ABC News’ reporter Bob Woodruff, who started the foundation, was critically wounded by an IED in Iraq in January 2006 and kept in a medically-induced coma for 36 days to help his recovery. Michael Sandel in the NY Times

In the fall of 2009, when “JUSTICE: What’s the Right Thing to Do” was first published, we had the opportunity to do four author events with Michael Sandel.   Each event was thought provoking and generated lots of lively discussion among those in attendance.
