One of the reasons we do what we do is to support organizations making a difference in our community. Through our Bulk Books for Good program, we spend a portion of our book sales’ profits purchasing books for those without them. One of the organizations we love to support is the Goodwill Excel Center of DC.
If you are unfamiliar with the Goodwill Excel Center of DC, they are a tuition free adult charter high school that awards industry recognized certifications and high school diplomas to adult learners. The school describes themselves as unique, because they are responding to the fact that life circumstances happen, which can get in the way of continuing a high school education.
71-year-old student, Lula Thomas, is a local grandmother who had dropped out of school in the seventh grade to work to help support her family, but in July Lula received her diploma from the Goodwill Excel Center of DC. So, when we see one of our benefactors making a difference in the community, it does our heart good! We love what the Goodwill Excel Center charter school is doing to help adults.
This charter school is an amazing center that helps so many people- people like Lula. They even help their students by offering assistance with flexible schedules, child care and transportation. How amazing is that?! Please watch the video of Lula, and thank you Goodwill Excel Center of DC for what you are doing to enrich lives.
