Last week Hooks Book Events was in San Diego! After a very successful event with Arianna Huffington and the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce in April, the North San Diego Business Chamber reached out to HBE about hosting Arianna for their members. The Book Goddess was in our corner (again!), and on May 21st, I was in Rancho Bernardo for the event. Thank you for the referral Boston Chamber!
It was a lovely start to what we hope is a continuing relationship. Debra Rosen, President of the San Diego Business Chamber, and her team did an amazing job in pulling the event together in a month – from securing the venue at SONY Electronics headquarters (thank you Mike Fasulo), coverage at the event by three TV stations and an engaging conversation between Arianna and Madeleine Pickens. With over 60 questions submitted from the 350+ attendees, the event could have continued for another few hours.
It was all meant to come together. San Diego County has adopted a new comprehensive initiative to encourage residents to improve their health and coincidentally, one of the components is “thriving”!! Arianna wants HuffPo to help spread the word and get other communities to get involved. We were especially grateful to Arianna for spending a few minutes with Kyle Maynard, a veteran of the war in Afghanistan. Kyle, a quadruple amputee, told Arianna that meditation has helped him with his recovery; he is truly inspiring having climbed Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania!
