Washington, DC, November 8, 2010 – Hooks Book Events, the University of the District of Columbia, Division of Student Affairs and UDC David A. Clarke School of Law announced today that they are hosting a live telecast of the “LIVE from the New York Public Library,” event featuring 10-time Grammy Award-Winning artist, entrepreneur and icon, Jay-Z in conversation with Princeton professor of African American studies, Dr. Cornel West, about his new book, DECODED, on Monday, November 15 at 7:00 pm. The free public event will be held at the UDC Auditorium, 4200 Connecticut Avenue NW, Building 46 East, Washington, DC. Doors open at 6:15 pm.
DECODED is a book like no other: a collection of lyrics and their meanings that together tell the story of a culture, an art form, a moment in history, and one of the most provocative and successful artists of our time. Featuring an image of Andy Warhol’s Rorschach on the cover, the beautifully designed, fully-illustrated book decodes 36 songs from Jay-Z’s extensive catalog. By telling the stories behind some of Jay-Z’s most famous and provocative lyrics, DECODED offers an intimate, first-hand account of an artist, his work, and the culture that so powerfully shaped him. A limited number of signed books will be available for sale at the event.
