A million books printed a year… we are often asked the question, “HBE does so many events – how do you read all the books?” Sadly, we are not able to, but as avid readers, we all have growing stacks on our nightstands that include upcoming HBE authors, book group reading and general interest. Check out our diverse selection:
Perry is enjoying Flash Boys: A Wall Street Revolt by Michael Lewis (WW Norton) and The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd (Penguin). She is also reading Run Don’t Walk by Adele Levine (Avery). Adele is a first time author and she writes about her experiences as a physical therapist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
Louise is in the middle of her annual spring re-read of The Shell Seekers by Rosamund Pilcher (Macmillan) because it reminds Louise of her mother.
Cheryl’s book group is reading Where’d you go Bernadette? by Maria Semple (Hachette) and she recommends it; says it is a great read and very funny.
Robin’s reading brought some relief to her home – The Latchkey Dog: How the Way you Live Shapes the Behavior of the Dog you Love by Jodi Anderson (Harper Collins) – so that she can now leave Murphy alone at home peacefully. That accomplished, Robin is sticking with peace (for people this time – and it won’t be as easy!) and has picked up I’d Rather Teach Peace by Colman McCarthy (Orbis) and Peace Is Possible, a compilation edited by Colman that includes his essays.
And, I just recently finished A Time of Gifts by Patrick Leigh Fermor (NYRB) and looking forward to the second volume. But am also slowly reading Death of the Black Haired Girl by Robert Stone (Houghton Mifflin) and Redeployment by Phil Klay (Penguin), a former Marine’s book of short stories on war experiences. |
We’d love to hear about the books that you are reading and recommend, so please share with us on Facebook!
