It’s September in Washington in an election year and that can mean only one thing – plenty of political banter and barbs.
At Hooks Book Events, we are taking cover from the political mêlée, hunkering down to focus on great books and events for our clients, and working on a new service for authors.
Fall Calendar!
Some highlights on our fall calendar include a special event with our good friends at the Greater Washington Board of Trade (www.bot.org). The event is designed to bring attention to a talent pool many employers overlook: our veterans. Local author Emily King will be discussing her book Field Tested: Recruiting, Managing and Retaining Veterans.
The September 14 event is open to the public (register here).
Karl Marlantes. He will speak to the warriors and family members in October and discuss his latest book What It’s Like to Go to War. If you are interested in learning more about this series and would like to help us underwrite and supply books to attendees, email perry@hooksbookevents.com.
We are also pleased to continue our book series for veterans at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda with former MarineThe Financial Times Long List for the 2012 Business Book of the Year is out. We have been able to work with several writers on the list, and our good pal Mark Fortier does the publicity for the list… two good reasons to like it. Speaking of lists, our next Know Ahead List is ready as well, and if you email us, we will gladly send you a copy.
Our fall calendar is quickly filling up, and we are looking forward to events with Jon Meacham, Mark Bowden, Lee Woodruff, Parmy Olson, Nassim Taleb and many others. 2013 is off to a good start as we have already confirmed two events – Boston in February and Memphis in April.
Parnassus Books!
And speaking of Tennessee, we have more good news! The new independent bookstore in Nashville, Parnassus Books owned by author and friend Ann Patchett, is now part of our store network for ordering and processing sales. So please keep sending us your bulk book orders, we believe in supporting the small independent book retailers and we believe you do too!
Enjoy The Fall!
So as it heats up here in DC with all of the political mayhem, we hope you will stay cool and keep your head down and squarely planted in a great book or two!
