Washington, D.C., (April 6, 2010) – Perry Hooks and Loretta Yenson, Co-Founders of Hooks Book Events, are pleased to partner with the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center and Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland to announce an exclusive book-signing event with internationally renowned, best-selling author Muhammad Yunus. On Friday, May 14th from 8:30 to 10:30 AM, Yunus will discuss his new book, Building Social Business: The New Kind of Capitalism That Serves Humanity’s Most Pressing Needs (PublicAffairs, 2010) at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center located at 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW. Tickets are priced at $35 per person and include the lecture followed by a Q&A session, and a copy of the featured book for Yunus to autograph. Student tickets are also available for just $15, and books can be bought on site for an additional cost of $27.50. Furthermore, a portion of the events proceeds will be donated to Fonkoze , Haiti’s alternative bank for the organized poor. Muhammad Yunus was born in Chittagong, Bangladesh the third of 14 children. He was educated at Dhaka University, and awarded a Fulbright scholarship to study economics at Vanderbilt University. He then served as chairman of the economics department at Chittagong University before devoting his life to providing financial and social services to the poorest of the poor as he developed the concept of microcredit, loans given to entrepreneurs too poor to qualify for traditional bank loans. Yunus is also the founder and managing director of Grameen Bank and in 2006, Yunus and the bank were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Yunus has received several other national and international honors and is the author of Banker to the Poor. He is one of the founding members of Global Elders and also serves on the board of directors of the United Nations Foundation, a public charity created in 1998 with entrepreneur and philanthropist Ted Turner to support United Nations causes.
